Following the merger between Powerfleet and MiX Telematics, all hardware used within the combined business was considered as part of a hardware consolidation exercise.
To satisfy the requirements for a contactless CAN sensor instead of the CANGOclick currently in use, the Powerfleet Contactless CAN adapter (P/N 715-50500) is an established product used successfully with the current Powerfleet vehicle gateway solution. In addition the installation support team has put it through rigorous comparison testing in known problem vehicles where it has performed very well. It has also been field tested with customers installs in the Africa business with no issues reported.
What is changing?
The accessory sold with our MiX 4000 devices that allows for CAN data to be extracted in a contactless and non-invasive manner will be changing from the CANGOclick to a customized version of the standard device (P/N 715-50501) that has been configured to plug into the MiX 4000 main harness (MP10 or MP22).
Note that:
- Its physical size is longer than the CANGOclick device and more in line with the previously used MiX CAN Sense, so installation on vehicles with space restrictions may be slightly more challenging.
- Like the CANGOclick, it is polarity sensitive so the correct placement of the CAN H and CAN L wires needs to be observed.
- A customized version of the standard device has been configured (P/N 715-50501) that will plug into the MiX 4000 main harness (MP10 or MP22).
- To satisfy this sensor power requirements it has two connectors. There is a new (vehicle supply) plug that will connect to the mating connector on the MP10/22 harness. The usual CAN 1 plug used by the CANGOClick and CANSense will also be required.
Rollout timeline:
- The call from the logistics department for last time orders of the CANGOclick has already gone out and these orders have been placed.
- The last of the CANGOclick stock will be supplied before the end of 2024.
- Samples of the new device that plugs into the MiX 4000 harness (P/N 715-50501) will be available by the end of November 2024. If local testing is required, sample devices should be ordered.
- If samples are required sooner, the standard device (P/N 715-50500) with bare wires can be ordered and manually connected into the install.
- From January 2025 all orders for contactless CAN sensors will be supplied as the Powerfleet device.
