The Rovi II / Rovi IV, also known as the MiX ELD is powered up when the driver turns the key in the vehicle to the battery on position.
The MiX ELD needs to be powered-up approximately two minutes (Rovi II) or one minute (Rovi IV) before the vehicle engine is powered-up. This is required in order for the MiX ELD to record the engine power-up event, which is required ELD information for the driver log. This typically applies to the first vehicle power-up for the day, as the ELD stays active for a number of hours after vehicle ignition is turned off. The MiX ELD will be ready to use when the home screen is shown.
Failure to follow the power-up procedure will result in an engine power diagnostic event being added to the driver’s log and unidentified driving being recorded as the MiX ELD may not have recorded the driver login event.
You can set certain power management settings in MiX Fleet Manager for your MiX ELD devices:
- Click Manage.
- Under Config admin, click MiX Rovi configuration.
- Search for the Rovi configuration group that you would like to make changes to.
- Click the dropdown arrow next to the group.
- Select Edit.
- You can set the time the screen must automatically turn off after the asset arming delay expired.
- You can specify the amount of time before the MiX Rovi automatically shuts down.
Arming Delay is the length of time that the vehicle must be inactive before a trip ends and the unit re-arms. Read more in the article on trips and sub-trips for an example.
- Click Save.
In the scenario above, the MiX ELD will immediately be on and ready when the ignition is turned on again if 4 hours have not elapsed after the ignition has been turned off.
If the ignition has been off for 4 hours, the Rovi will do a cold boot when restarted.
It is very important never to switch off your MiX ELD device using the red button at the top. The proper way of shutting down your device is by turning off the vehicle ignition. The MiX ELD will then save and sync all the information properly and power down according to the configured settings (which can be amended in MiX Fleet Manager.) USING THE RED BUTTON TO SHUT DOWN CAN SEVERELY DAMAGE THE DEVICE.
