The VIN field on the asset page locks automatically once the asset has a VIN assigned and belongs to an OEM configuration group. This applies to Ford, Hino, Navistar, Stellantis, UD Trucks and Volvo Electric Bus assets.
Locking the field protects the VIN, which acts as the asset's unique identifier, from being changed by mistake after it's set.
This means you cannot edit the VIN after creating a new asset and saving the VIN.
When the VIN field locks
The lock triggers as soon as both conditions are met, regardless of which one happens first:
- You assign an OEM config group to the asset on the Assets page, enter the VIN, and click Save.
- You drag the asset into an OEM config group on the Config groups page, then return to the Assets page, enter the VIN, and click Save.
- You enter the VIN for the asset on the Assets page, then drag the asset into an OEM config group on the Config groups page.
Once locked, the VIN field cannot be edited from the Assets page.
If a VIN was entered incorrectly, contact the Powerfleet support department to have it corrected.
