Mobile app installation policy - APK and direct install requests
Can I install Powerfleet Easy mobile apps using an APK file?
No. Powerfleet applications are only available through the official app stores:
| Platform | Store | Link |
|---|---|---|
| Android | Google Play Store | play.google.com |
| iOS | Apple App Store | apple.com/app-store |
Why can't we distribute APK files?
From a legal and risk management perspective, Powerfleet does not support the distribution of mobile applications via .apk files or any other direct installation method outside of the official app stores.
Distributing apps outside of controlled store environments introduces a range of unacceptable risks, including:
- Security vulnerabilities - unvetted builds may expose users or data to threats
- Lack of version control - users may run outdated or incompatible software
- Compliance exposure - potential violations of legal and regulatory requirements
- Liability risk - increased exposure in the event of data or compliance incidents
Powerfleet's official position
All Powerfleet mobile software must be distributed exclusively through the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store. This approach ensures the integrity and security of our software, maintains compliance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements, and appropriately manages our liability exposure.
Accordingly, we will not accommodate requests for .apk files or equivalent packages. Any exceptions would require formal executive approval, which is not anticipated as a general practice.
How to respond to client and RSO requests
When a client or RSO asks for an APK file or alternative installation method, use the following guidance:
- Acknowledge their request politely.
- Redirect them to the appropriate official app store (Google Play or Apple App Store).
- Do not offer workarounds, share internal builds, or escalate as a feature request.
- If they push back or claim a special use case, escalate internally - do not commit to exceptions.
